About

I am a ceramic artist originally from Aotearoa, New Zealand but now live and work in Naarm, Melbourne. After studying a Bachelor of Fine Art at Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland I struggled to build a practice that felt fulfilling. After a long time away from art I took a beginners pottery class at Auckland Studio Potters and began making ceramics in my spare time. This grew into a passion and I have been immersed in clay ever since.

In 2020 I completed a three month internship with Kirsten Dryburgh of Dryburgh Pottery. This was a pivotal experience due to Kirsten’s passion for ceramics and generous nature when it came to sharing her knowledge. This culminated in a small show called Entrée and the desire to continue to build my practice.

I use a mix of techniques in my work including hand building, sculpting and occasionally throwing on the wheel. I predominantly use a coil technique to build large vases because I find it is a meditative process. I am drawn to clay and glazes that react in unexpected, natural ways, allowing the materials to have a life of their own.

My work is inspired by nature, personal experiences and the stories we carry with us. I often use animal imagery and symbolism to explore these ideas, creating pieces that feel a little playful, sometimes strange, and open to different interpretations.
